You know a lot more about your meat. When meat is purchased in small quantities at the grocery store, most folks have no idea who raised it, where it lived, or the conditions where it spent its life. These things are more and more important as people start paying attention to our food system. Granted, we want to make clear, all meat that you buy in the grocery store is safe! It has to go through and be evaluated before entering the food chain. When buying from our family, you will receive beef that was not only grown on our farm for a few months but was bred and born on our farm. It's entire lifespan was spent right here on our farm. We know what cow it came out of, what bull it was sired by and if we had to treat it for anything sickness. We can tell you the history of your animal.
You can talk to us, the farm family directly: Have questions? Great! We are open and willing to answer any questions that you may have around the animals that we raise and the beef that will fill your freezer!
You always have meat on hand: This is probably my favorite thing! You can’t beat the convenience of having so much in your freezer. No more running to the grocery store because you need a pound of ground beef or need steaks to throw on the grill for your friends coming over on a beautiful summer night. All you need is in your freezer!
You are supporting a local farm family: Like the other 97% of Iowa farms, we are a family farm. By purchasing beef from our family, we in turn are spending a lot of that money made back in our community. You are supporting young and growing farm families who have hopes and dreams and want to do the best thing for our kids while sharing our love for the land and for our cattle.
You need extra space. Even sharing a quarter-cow with another family can mean a lot of meat. You may need to either get rid of items in our freezer or purchase a new freezer for your beef.
It’s an upfront investment: It is a larger investment upfront as you buy 6-12 months worth of beef, BUT it will actually save you money in the long run! Even if you are spending around $5.00/lb for beef. You may be spending about the same or a little more on your ground beef, but you can't even touch a ribeye, T-bone or Sirloin for $5.00 a pound in the grocery store!
You won’t know the exact price when ordering: Because the Retail Weight is so different from the Live Weight, you won’t have an exact figure when you place your order. But we will give you a ballpark amount that is as close as possible.
Here are the weights roughly as to what our shares would be. This too is not an exact figure as all animals will weigh a little different. Depending on how many people are in your family, if you are going to split your share with another family and how much beef you eat will help determine how much beef you would want to purchase.
Here are the approximate amounts of beef:
Quarter Beef= 235 lbs
Half Beef= 475 lbs
Whole Beef=900 lbs
